Intel CEO unexpectedly showed Lenovo CEO… Panther Lake processor

Published by Andrii Rusanov

At the Lenovo Tech World presentation, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger showed Lenovo President Yuanqing Yang a sample of a new laptop chip.

The Panther Lake chip is Intel’s first product to be manufactured using the 18A process. The processor’s packaging design differs from Lunar Lake, which has built-in RAM. The processor uses Foveros layout technology. The chip consists of 5 crystals and contains high-performance Panther Cove and energy-efficient Darkmont computing. It is also the first product with Xe3 graphics, albeit in a low-consumption version. Apparently, no one expected a chip with Xe3 graphics to be demonstrated before Intel released its Xe2 discrete graphics cards.

«There is one more thing before I leave the stage. You know that we have been working together on Meteor Lake, Lunar Lake and Core Ultra PC, great battery life, CPU, GPU, NPU, but we are not done yet, right? So I would like to give you your first sample of Panther Lake. This is our next product on 18A, which will be launched based on the great work we announced today».

Intel has not yet said anything about Panther Lake performance. However, Gelsinger previously noted that the NPU unit will deliver twice the performance of Lunar Lake. Recently, Intel confirmed in the patch notes that Panther Lake will ship with NPU5, which, based on this information, will be six times faster than the Meteor Lake NPU.

There is also talk of a potential debut of Panther Lake on desktop computersbut this has not been confirmed by any official or unofficial leaks of roadmaps. Allegedly, the company has canceled its plans for Arrow Lake Refresh. In the meantime, Lenovo’s chairman put the Panther Lake processor in his pocket, which marks the next generation of laptops.
