Jack Black was supposed to play a talking pig in Minecraft — he was made by Steve in the last stages of development

Minecraft, trailers of which are praised, then disliked by dislikescould have looked different in the final version — at least without the main character Steve.

It turns out that Jack Black was initially given a «more serious» role — of a pixel pig, albeit with words.

«His character was originally a talking pig, and this was very, very late in the development process», — said Variety Torfi Frans Olafsson, Mojang’s Senior Director of Original Content. «Eventually we had the idea to give him the role of Steve because we needed a guide and an expert in the world».

Olafsson does not specify what stage of development he is talking about, but it is possible that the cameras were already working at the time. We demand to see the first version!

Among other interesting points of the interview: it turns out that Black played more than 100 hours of Minecraft during his downtime on the set.

«He was just maniacal, accumulating things in mines, looking for lapis lazuliLapis lazuli in Minecraft is an item used to enchant tools and armor. because he liked the sound of the word. He kept saying: “Can I talk about lapis lazuli in the movie?”».

Minecraft is an open-world sandbox video game, and the character Steve is essentially a «blank slate» on which players can project their own personalities.

«It’s not my Steve and it’s not your Steve — it’s Jack Black’s Steve», — says Olafsson about the role of the actor. «Many fans wrote after watching the first trailer: “Wait, it’s just Jack Black”. That’s because he literally interprets this character and what he means to him».

As we have already mentioned, the plot of the Minecraft adaptation actually duplicates «Jumanji» — a couple of adults and a couple of teenagers find themselves in a game world in which they have to escape from evil creatures while trying to protect the good ones.

In addition to Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge take on the lead roles. Minecraft will be released in Ukrainian cinemas on April 3.
