Director James Cameron added some details about “Avatar: Fire and Ash” and also showcased additional images of the movie. It is known who Oona Chaplin will play.
“We have several really smart action scenes. This movie can really get your blood pumping. But what excites me as an artist, who has recently turned 70 years old and has done all this — is not just the ability to do it again, but also to achieve a level of characters and intrigue that you have not seen before in the ‘Avatar’ movies. … It’s a tricky thing… if you do not make bold choices, you are wasting time and money, not just your own. That alone is not enough for success, but it is necessary. You must break [the form] every time,” Cameron told Empire.
Oona Chaplin, known for “Game of Thrones”, “Taboo” (in photo) and many other films and series, as well as her support of the Russians, will play a new antagonist — the head of the Ash clan. Previously, it was known that her character’s name is Varang, and that the actress will participate in further parts of the franchise. Cameron has now specified her image somewhat:
“Varang is a leader of people who have gone through incredible hardships. She is tempered by this. She will do everything for them, even what we might consider evil. … We are trying to move beyond the paradigm of ‘all humans are bad, all Na’vi are good. She is an enemy, a hostile character. But she makes you feel her [character] so real and alive,” added the director.
New film arts again showcase bizarre airborne creatures used by the Windtraders.
“These are nomadic traders, similar to camel caravans on the Spice Road in the Middle Ages. And you know, they are just fun. Like all Na’vi, they live in symbiosis with their creatures,” Cameron explained.
The movie “Avatar: Fire and Ash” will appear in theaters on December 19, 2025.
