DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn says that his version of «Superman» will be significantly different from other upcoming DC films and Zack Snyder’s take on the Man of Steel in particular.
According to Gunn, the main difference will be that Superman, played by David Corensworth will not be «dark and harsh», but rather a family character symbolizing hope for the best.
«One of the things I love about DC Comics is that they’ve always been able to tell different stories in different ways. They’ve given stories that were more family-oriented and stories that were more adult-oriented, dark stories, light stories,» Gunn told MovieZine (via CBM).
In fact, the David Corensworth movie would be different from Gunn’s other films, which mostly looked like «violence-filled comedies» — «Suicide Squad», «The Peacekeeper» or the upcoming Creature Commandos, and would effectively «bury» what Zack Snyder brought to DC with his own version of the Man of Steel. Snyder presented a darker and more mature version of the characters and while this approach has its merits, it also lost much of what made DC superheroes so compelling — in effect, they were «beacons of justice in a world full of danger».
According to Hahn, the «family approach will help the young Superman become an «icon for fans of all ages for years to come». In addition, many viewers are very impressed with DC’s new strategy of giving «greenlight to» projects only after scripts are approved, unlike Marvel, which announces a massive calendar and then cancels or postpones projects due to reshoots.
Despite the emergence of a large number of photos from the film sets and several official images DC fans still haven’t seen the trailer. According to rumors, it may be released in two weeks, on December 9 (we’ll check).
As a reminder «Superman» with David Corensworth will debut in theaters on July 11, 2025. As previously reported, Rachel Brosnahan («The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel») has taken over the role of Lois Lane, and the villain Lex Luthor was played by Nicholas Hoult («Big»), which, by the way, was originally tried out for the role of Clark Kent. The rest of the cast will include Maria Gabriela de Faria as the Engineer, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eva Teschmacher, Terence Rosmar as Otis, and Anthony Kerrigan as Metamorpho.
Also in the movie Christopher Reeve’s son will be born who played Clark Kent in 1978 — as a TV reporter. We may also see a new Super girl performed by a star «Dragon House» Millie Alcock.
