SBU detained in Kharkiv, a group of GRU agents consisting of four local residents — two unemployed, a former military officer and a software engineer.
The group’s activities were reportedly coordinated by a militant «of the DNR special forces» fighting against Ukraine in the east and cooperating with the GRU.
The suspects were spying on the military and preparing a series of terrorist attacks in Kharkiv: during one of them, they blew up the car of an Armed Forces soldier, which seriously injured him, and in the next they were supposed to track a train with military equipment and derail it.
One of the men was detained in a forest belt when he tried to hide an explosive device, the rest were detained at their place of residence.
During the searches, explosives were seized, as well as cell phones and computer equipment with evidence of the crimes. The detainees were notified of suspicion of high treason and illegal handling of explosives, and may be additionally classified as sabotage and terrorist acts — they face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
