Specialists of iSeeCars.com determined the most dangerous cars on American roads. To do this, they analyzed data on fatalities from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for car models manufactured in 2018-2022 that were involved in accidents that resulted in the death of at least one passenger.
It is noted that car safety has improved significantly over the past two decades. However, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, there have been more accidents and fatalities on US roads over the past 5 years than in the previous 12 years. According to an iSeeCars study, the fatal crash rate is now 2.8 per billion miles (1.6 billion km).
The study identified the 23 most dangerous car models for people, which most often lead to fatalities. The rate of fatal accidents is at least twice the average.
The frequency of fatal accidents involving these cars is almost five times higher than the average.
Two Tesla cars, the Model Y and Model S, made the list of the most dangerous, despite the advanced driver assistance technologies offered by the company. At the same time, Tesla has the highest rate of fatal accidents among all car brands. It is followed by Kia, Buick, Dodge, and Hyundai.
Compact and subcompact cars have the highest rate of fatal accidents by size: 3.6 fatalities for every billion miles. At the same time, full-size models have the lowest fatality rate by size: 2.0 fatalities for every billion miles.
