GTA 3 / The Gamer
Design documents for several Grand Theft Auto games, including GTA 3, have been leaked online, revealing ambitious plans for the franchise.
The documents date back to 2001. They were uploaded by a GTAForums user under the name FrankieLiberty. According to him, he shared the files because other users were selling these documents for profit.
The documents reveal that GTA 3 and GTA 3 Online had ambitious plans at the time that would have included a faction system, a skill system, the ability to own real estate, and more. The documents also show that Barking Dog Studios, which was acquired by Take-Two Interactive in August 2002 and turned into Rockstar Vancouver, was to develop the game.
According to the GTA Focal portal, the materials released by FrankieLiberty are available for free at Internet Archive digital library. The 6 MB archive contains PDF files with design documents of old games in the series.
Meanwhile, Rockstar Games continues to work on GTA 6, which is scheduled for release in the fall of 2025. GTA fans have already resorted to astrology and started looking for the release date of the second trailer by the phases of the moon due to the lack of official announcements from the developers.
