Less than half a year has passed: Samsung announces when it will release Android 15 for Galaxy

Published by Vadym Karpus

Google released Android 15 back in September 2024, and since then, the update has already reached many devices, including Pixel smartphones, OnePlus, and other brands. Over the past few years, Samsung has been actively accelerating the introduction of new versions of Android and usually updated its last year’s Galaxy models within 1-3 months. For example, Android 14 appeared on Samsung devices on October 30, 2023, less than a month after the first update for the Pixel.

But this year, things didn’t go according to plan – Samsung significantly delayed the Android 15 update for Galaxy users.

The first beta version of Android 15 for the Galaxy S24 was released only in December, and the expansion of the beta program to other devices began only recently. Despite the fact that One UI 7 debuted with the Galaxy S25 series, as well as on the new Galaxy A models, the company has been silent for months about the global launch of the update.

And now, finally, the official release date of Android 15 for Samsung mobile devices has been announced.

In its blog post, the company announced that it will start rolling out the One UI 7 update based on Android 15 for older Galaxy models in April, which is about a month after the announcement date and almost 6 months after the initial release of the new OS.

One UI 7 is a major update, so the delay didn’t come as a surprise, but the six-month wait was quite frustrating for users. In any case, this delay is finally coming to an end.

Perhaps the long development and testing time for the update was the best decision, considering that after the quick update to Android 15 some Pixel 6 smartphones just «died».
