LG announces OLED G5 and OLED M5 — 165Hz wireless TVs, better brightness and AI features

At CES, LG announced their smart OLED TVs for 2025. Among the new features are the Brightness Booster Ultimate in the OLED G5 (165 Hz) and improved reliability of the wireless M5.

LG spilled the beans on the deets of their next-gen smart TVs. Even though they’re coming later, the company confirmed the key new features of the OLED G5 and OLED M5 TVs. Both top models will be brighter, but LG isn’t dropping specific numbers just yet. According to their statements, the TVs will be “three times brighter” than “regular” OLEDs.

For dark scenes, LG promises “the highest level of black”—the models have been tested for “perfect black” and “perfect color” by UL Solutions. LG was the first in the industry to snag the Perfect Black status back in 2022.

The wireless LG OLED M5 model, just like the current generation, will have a 144 Hz refresh rate, but the Zero Connect Box wireless transmission is expected to be more reliable than in the previous model. The external unit of these models allows devices such as the Sony PlayStation 5 to be connected to the TV and remotely transmit the signal to the screen without losing quality.

Meanwhile, the LG OLED G5 will see its refresh rate bumped up to 165 Hz. The TV will support AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-Sync. Sizes will range from 48” to 97“, but the new brighter panel is only being installed in sizes from 55” to 83”. The new LG Alpha 11 Gen 2 processor supports AI upscaling of content to 4K resolution.

In 2025, LG is focusing more than ever on AI features and will swap out the Magic Remote for an AI Remote. The input switching button will move to WebOS. Also, LG has crafted a microphone button, which will allow users to interact with AI Search based on Microsoft Copilot. The AI Remote will be able to recognize individual voices for personalized recommendations. The intelligent assistant will “uncover the subtle intentions of the user.” The new TVs also come equipped with AI Sound Pro, providing 11.1.2 channels of surround sound.
