Yesterday, Marvel published several posters for the movie «Fantastic Four along with the first trailer: The First Steps» —, and while the video evoked generally positive emotions among fans, the images were received controversially.

The reason for — is the potential use of artificial intelligence to create posters. At the very least, they contain all the features that usually appear on images generated by neural networks: a non-standard number of fingers, blurred faces, or even duplicates of them.

Here is one of the posters for example:

And the details that prompted fans to think about using AI:

Despite all these suspicions, in a commentary to The Wrap a Marvel spokesperson said «artificial intelligence was not used to create posters». Although in the past, the studio and its parent company Disney have been caught using the technology on several occasions: remember posters for the second season «Loki» or individual scenes in the series «Secret Invasion».

And in Hollywood, this practice has already become quite common: the A24 studio has created posters for «State’s Rebellion» using neural networksand the author of the trailer «Metropolis» generated quotes from critics using a text chatbot (which would have been fine, but they eventually turned out to be fake)

The premiere of the movie «Fantastic Four: The First Steps», which tells the story of the new version of Reed Richards’ team, is scheduled for July 25, 2025.
