American Maxar Technologies has denied Ukraine access to its satellite imagery, which was also used for military purposes.
The disconnection was reported by the website «Militarny», citing several unnamed commercial users. They report that the service explains this as an «administrative request». It is likely that this is actually a disconnection due to the US ban on providing intelligence to Ukraine. This means that not only government agencies but also commercial services are involved in the blocking.
The community «Cyberboroshno» declares in Telegram about the termination of free access to photos. However, the cyber activists do not explicitly mention which services they are talking about.
«Free access to the images has been closed. According to our information, at least private companies can buy imagery that has already been ordered through a provider. The free access was used at all levels, and it helped to track the enemy’s accumulations at the tactical level, as well as activity at operational and strategic facilities. We hope the Ministry of Defense is working with European partners on this issue.
The American aerospace company Maxar is one of the most important suppliers of data on troop movements. Its images also help to clarify the location of strategic objects of the Russian occupiers on the territory of Russia itself.
As a reminder, this week it became known that the United States had stopped providing intelligence to Ukraine. It seems that this applies to absolutely all data, including that necessary for guidance of HIMARS missile systems and Patriot air defense systems. Such actions significantly limit the capabilities of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and are actually helping the Russian invaders in the war they have started.
