Meta fired 20 employees for leaking information to the media — and promises to cut «even more» spies

On Thursday, Meta announced the dismissal of 20 employees, allegedly for disclosing confidential internal information to journalists.

«We inform employees when they join the company and periodically remind them that leaking inside information is against our policy, regardless of intent», — said a Meta spokesperson, confirming the news of the dismissal, first published The Verge. «We recently conducted an investigation that resulted in about 20 employees being dismissed for disclosing confidential information outside the company».

The company’s representative added that efforts to find «spies» will continue, so more layoffs» are expected in the near future.

«We take this seriously and will continue to take action when we find leaks».

The layoffs came amid a recent series of articles about Meta, including change of internal policy regarding «outdated» diversity programscaused by «the change in the political landscape». Earlier, Meta hired Republican Joel Kaplan as its chief global affairs officer and UFC president (and Trump’s main ally) Dana White to join the board. Zuckerberg himself was also one of the sponsors of the inauguration of the newly elected US president, and attended the event alongside Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.

According to The Verge, Zuckerberg later told employees during one of his work meetings that he would no longer provide them with information because everything he says «leaks» and «sucks». He also warned them to prepare for a year in which Meta will be a «productive partner of the White House».

These minor layoffs also come on the heels of large-scale layoffs of 4000 «inefficient» employees and a 200% increase in bonuses for bosses.
