Netflix’s Korean subsidiary has shown behind-the-scenes footage of the second season of Squid Game and some unused footage.
The 20-minute video features an extended version of the «multi-legged race» with the participation of rapper Thanos’ (Choi Seung-hyun) team.
The character became one of the new audience favorites in the second season due to his quirky and energetic performance, but received little footage in the competition (except for the «green light-red light» game). In the Netflix extended video (09:40), you can see things that were not included in the episode — including the moment when Thanos praises his team in each of the rounds, and even defends one of the players after the attacks of «colleagues», which is not very typical of his character.
The fact that the full version of the competition was not included in the series is not surprising, as this competition focused on several other important moments: the team that started the competition first and failed, scaring the others; the team that passed it completely; and the team of Song Gi-hoon (Lee Jong-jae) with an undisclosed frontman in the lineup at the time.
Among other things, the behind-the-scenes video of «Squid Game» shows interesting details of the filming and the set, as well as some interesting gaffes: for example, when Park Sung-hoon (a transgender player) accidentally slapped another actress.
The second season of «The Squid Game» continues the story of the winner of the previous competition, Song Gi Hoon, who returned to the deadly arena to save the other participants and to reach the organizers to stop the game forever. The sequel garnered 126.2 million views in 11 days (faster than any other series on Netflix), but received rather mediocre reviews — in particular, for the season’s limited seven-episode run and open-ended finale.
We expect the third season to be released on Netflix in the summer or fall of 2025.
