Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment, confirmedthat a sequel to the series «Adolescence» is in the works — negotiations are currently underway with director Philippe Barantini, and the producers are thinking about how to «expand the DNA of the show» and not repeat themselves.
«Adolescence» has become Netflix’s biggest hit among miniseries — it has been marked by a 100% start on Rotten Tomatoes and now is ranked fourth in the ranking of the most popular English-language streaming shows with 115 million views since its debut on March 13.
The series, filmed in one-shot style, tells the story of a 13-year-old schoolboy who is arrested on suspicion of murdering his classmate. From that moment on, the life of Jamie Miller and his family turns into a nightmare as his lawyer, therapist and investigators try to get to the bottom of the case. Owen Cooper takes the lead role, while Stephen Graham plays the father of the family.
The story itself caused a great deal of discussion in society, and even the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, mentioned the show in his speech — he noted that The series shocked him as a parent and encouraged schoolchildren to watch it.
It is not known which storyline will be chosen for the sequel — at least for now, we can assume that «Adolescence» will become an anthology series, where the next season will show viewers the tragic story of another family. It is unlikely that the story of Jamie himself will be continued, although the first season offers some plot clues, such as the story of a murder victim or the actual trial and its media coverage.
Brad Pitt promoted the show in part because he had already worked with Graham on the movie «The Big Short» and because he was impressed with Steve’s previous work with Barantini on «Boiling Point».
«Pitt was part of the energy, drive, and incentive to get this project off the ground», — explained Co-President Jeremy Kleiner Plan B.
It is now quite possible that Pitt’s influence could lead to the expansion of the franchise.
All four episodes of «Adolescence», ranging in length from 51 to 65 minutes, are currently streaming on Netflix and are available in Ukrainian dubbing.
