Death Stranding 2: On the Beach / Хідео Кодзіма
Conquering huge monsters and… couriers are now unemployed? Hideo Kojima showed a 10-minute trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
The game’s creator revealed some details of the plot, release date, and pre-orders during SXSW 2025. As expected, the trailer leaves more questions than answers. Let’s start with the fact that the sequel takes place 11 months after the first part
There has been a technological breakthrough in the delivery system. Thanks to dozens or hundreds of servers on the beach, some deliveries are automated. But the question remains — why is Sam still carrying loads by hand?
The game hints at a new system of satellites and monsters that can be controlled. In one of the cutscenes, a ship’s side was installed instead of a huge monster’s head. But there are no answers as to how (or if) this system works.
The trailer is literally packed with symbolism and eerie clues. One of them is the mysterious skeleton soldiers that were first shown five years ago. Kojima has hinted that they are a physical echo of the pre-apocalypse gun culture in the United States.
Sam will also face a new enemy. It may be the mysterious smuggler Neil, who apparently has a deep connection with the already familiar government organization Bridges. At the same time, the trailer showed 14 key characters: Sam (Norman Reedus), Fredgie (Lea Seydoux), Giggs (Troy Baker), Tumorrow (Elle Fanning), the Doctor (Debbie Wilson) and others.
Death Stranding 2 pre-order starts on March 17, which will provide a special Quokka hologram and three exoskeletons for Sam. The game will be available in several versions:
Standard edition — $69.99
Digital Deluxe Edition — $79.99
Collector’s Edition — $229.99
There are just over three months left until Death Stranding 2 releases — the game will be released on June 26, 2025 exclusively on PlayStation 5. Kojima announced an extension in December 2022, and now it’s clear that the sequel will be even more mysterious and atmospheric, than the first part.
Hideo Kojima is also working on OD —, a mysterious psychological horror that he is developing with Jordan Peele. And the second project was a movie based on Death Stranding, but it will not be a simple adaptation of the game. The Creator promises something that we have not yet seen.
