New Greek God of War spin-off scheduled for 2025 — insider

Published by Margarita Yuzyak

Rumors about the return of God of War to Greece have appeared repeatedly, and it seems that this time they may turn out to be true.

Well-known insider Jeff Grubb stated that PlayStation is working on a side project in the God of War universe, which will take place in Ancient Greece. The insider did not disclose plot details, except that the game will be a spin-off and will be smaller than the main parts of the series. Perhaps it will be something like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moralesis a separate story that uses some of the developments of the main game, but tells a new storyline.

It is also unclear who is working on the game. If it’s Sony Santa Monica, then it’s either developing in parallel with the next big installment or has outsourced the project to other teams.

Despite the success of the Scandinavian saga, many fans have long dreamed of seeing Kratos in his home world again. Since 2005, the games in the series have been telling the story of a ruthless struggle against the gods of Olympus, culminating in their destruction in three epic installments. God of War: Chains of Olympus (2008) offered an in-depth look at Kratos’ service to the Greek gods. And Ghost of Sparta (2010) revealed the secrets of his past and his unbreakable bond with Sparta. Potentially, returning to this setting can give a new perspective on the events of the old parts. Or even tell the unknown moments between God of War 3 and restart in 2018.

By the way, PlayStation has already hinted at its interest in the Greek era of Kratos. For example, in the Valhalla DLC for God of War Ragnarok there were flashbacks that referred to ancient Greek adventures. For example, the DLC featured familiar characters and locations from the Greek saga, such as Helios and the Chamber of Sacrifice. In addition, Kratos uses The Blade of Olympus, which became a new option for his rage, reminding us of its former strength.

Earlier, there were rumors that Sony Santa Monica might release remasters of the classic trilogy in honor of the 20th anniversary of the series, but this information has not been confirmed yet. Insiders also cannot say whether the studio is really working on re-releasing old games. At least, the players received discounts and free Ragnarök updates for the franchise anniversary and Kratos skins.

According to the insider, God of War is scheduled for release in 2025. If this is true, PlayStation may present it this year at one of its presentations. Previously, there were rumors that Kratos would start traveling in Egypt, but it appears that it will not happen. In any case, the return of God of War to Ancient Greece — is news that will definitely interest fans.
