New video cards for $549: NVIDIA RTX 5070 and Radeon RX 9070 will be released a day apart, AMD expects smaller shortages

Published by Andrii Rusanov

The NVIDIA RTX 5070 has already been announced by US stores for $549, but they are expected to be in short supply. Will AMD Radeon RX 9070 with a similar price point compete with them?

Videocard Radeon RX 9070 will cost the same as RTX 5070. In fact, there may be a situation where RX 9070s will be cheaper and more affordable. Historically, AMD cards of the XX70/X700 series have been quite popular, so there is a reason to talk about competition. The situation with a slight $50 price difference between the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT is unclear — it’s hard to say which one gamers will choose and whether both will be equally available.

«The Red Team» does not offer reference design graphics cards, so the only hope for their availability at the recommended price is through AMD partners. According to VideoCardz, «they have been building stock for months», that is, the cards will be available. In turn, RTX 5070 will be in short supply at the start, but the good news is that NVIDIA will offer Founders Edition graphics cards, which may make it easier to buy them at the recommended price.

The TDP of the RTX 5070 Founders Edition is 250W, but it can be customized to 275W. The Radeon RX 9070 should consume up to 220 watts, but manufacturers will increase this value. XFX has announced a line with 245W TBP (Typical Board Power, similar to AMD’s TGP) by default, so we can talk about almost the same values if you are interested in power consumption when buying.

AMD and XFX have actually already opened pre-orders for the cards at the recommended price in China. As you can see above, Asus is offering at least one non-FE RTX 5070 at MSRP. NVIDIA RTX 5070 cards will be released on March 5, followed by Radeon RX 9070 on March 6. Accordingly, their reviews will be available a day earlier.
