«Not for desktops»: Intel has no plans for 3D V-Cache in gaming processors

Intel’s technical communications manager Florian Meislinger says the company has no plans to implement AMD’s 3D V-Cache analog in custom processors.

AMD offers processors with 3D V-Cache for both data centers and consumers. Reviews agree that the 9800X3D is effectively the king of gaming when it comes to absolute performance.

Intel, which recently released a series of Core Ultra 200 processors, officially recognized the unsuccessful start and said that the new series is more energy efficient, but about 5% slower. As it turned out, Intel has no immediate plans to show something similar on the consumer market. In an interview with Der8auer and Bens Hardware Florian Meislinger confirmed that the company is working on a processor with a large cache. However, it is intended for the data center market, not for consumers.

«AMD processors are designed for a very specific target group, and that group is gamers. We recognize that this technology has a lot to offer gamers, but it also has trade-offs that need to be accepted. In this case, it’s good if I have an X3D processor that may not be as powerful in applications. This is intentional and technologically we still have it under control. This means that next year there will be processors with a cache plate, but not for desktops. … This [gaming PCs] is not a very big market for us. We still sell a very large number of processors that are not necessarily used for gaming».

Although Intel has no plans for custom processors with large caches in the near future, the company’s patents indicate that such technology is at least being considered. As reported by HardwareLuxxL4 cache appeared in a patent and software updates some time ago.
