NVIDIA did not allow us to review the RTX 5060 Ti with 8 GB — what is the company afraid of?

Published by Vadym Karpus

Yesterday NVIDIA officially announced new GeForce RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti graphics cards. But it seems that the company itself does not really believe in the success of these new products. After all, NVIDIA does not allow partners to supply GeForce RTX 5060 Ti graphics cards with 8 GB of memory for reviews. And for the RTX 5060, which is available only with 8 GB of memory, there is no review program at all.

NVIDIA is actively discouraging its partners from shipping RTX 5060 Ti cards for reviews — but this does not apply to all models. The 16GB version will be released as planned and is the main variant that is being focused on for reviews. The problem concerns the 8GB version, which, as some media outlets have pointed out, should not have the same name at all. This version was not included in the official review program, and it almost certainly won’t appear in the upcoming reviews tomorrow — unless, of course, some resourceful reviewer gets it through personal contacts.

This information was confirmed by Hardware Unboxed. Although they were allowed to get the 8GB version for a review, they failed to do so. The reason is that these graphics cards are either not ready yet or, as explained by the partners, NVIDIA has explicitly forbidden sending these models for testing.

«Although the official launch date is the same for both versions, only the 16 GB model is actually sent for review, so it will be shown on the release day. But that’s not all: we’ve been told that partners can’t provide the 8GB version for reviews at all. Even though NVIDIA formally authorized its use on the first day, some partners said that the cards are either not ready or they are explicitly prohibited from sending them for review,» Hardware Unboxed said.

Hardware Unboxed representatives also report that despite NVIDIA’s official statements, the 8GB GeForce RTX 5060 Ti model probably won’t appear at the same time as the older version, but will be released only in a week or so. It is unclear why the company did not postpone the official release. But if they had openly separated the launch dates of the different versions, the media would have immediately asked a lot of questions about the lack of a separate review program.

Previous reports from NVIDIA about the launch of RTX 5060 Ti were contradictory. Initially, the company denied that it was prioritizing the 16GB version, but later confirmed this during a Q&A session, according to HardwareUnboxed.

It also became known that the base RTX 5060 graphics card, which is due out in May, will not have an official media review. So, if someone receives this model earlier, publishing the results will not even be considered a violation of the embargo.
