NVIDIA RTX 5090 / NVIDIA
NVIDIA supplies top video cards with the D index to China, which comply with US restrictions. But if you look at the characteristics of the RTX 5090D, they will be the same as the regular version.
The RTX 5090D video card seems absolutely identical to RTX 5090 in main specifications. Both have 21,760 CUDA cores and 32 GB of GDDR7 memory. However, NVIDIA’s restrictions are more technological and hidden. The company limited the performance of the processor’s tensor cores. Although the chip overall is the same, TOPS were reduced from 3352 to 2375. This means that the RTX 5090D has only 70% performance in AI tasks.
NVIDIA did not limit the clock speed, nor other specifications. It is not known exactly whether the change in cores affected TDP. In RTX 4090D, TDP was changed, but now NVIDIA had much more time to prepare the Chinese variant. It is also worth noting that the rumors about RTX 5080D did not come true — NVIDIA will sell this model in the Chinese market without restrictions.
For gamers, this means that the performance of NVIDIA RTX 5090D in games should not fall compared to the main model, — at least, this is what the site VideoCardz believes. NVIDIA does not comment on the possible loss of gaming performance due to AI restrictions. RTX 5090D will also be released in China on January 30.
