GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition у корпусі ПК / NVIDIA
PCIe 5.0 support appeared on video cards, but seems not very useful. According to the tests, NVIDIA RTX 5090 has only a 1% advantage in PCIe 5.0 x16.
According to the updated test of PCI Express scaling from TechPowerUp, a system user with PCIe 4.0 will lose only a percentage of RTX 5090 performance. As for PCIe 3.0, owners of computers that do not even officially support Windows 11 should also hardly think about a new PC — performance is only 4% at resolutions 1080p/1440p and 3% in 4K.
A faster data exchange interface would be more useful in scenarios of using the video card in configurations with PCIe 5.0 x8, x4, or x1. The PCIe 4.0 x4 specification, which is responsible for the throughput capability of the OCuLink standard, provides 89% performance of RTX 5090 in 1080p, 90% with 1440p, and 94% with 4K.
The video card with 32 GB of video memory is used not only for games. AI researchers who use it through OCuLink are unlikely to face significant consequences of the speed limitation, although this result requires additional tests.
It is also worth mentioning the problem of compatibility of PCIe risers and motherboards. According to a review by the YouTube channel HardwareCanucks, some motherboards may require manual switching to older standards (PCIe 4.0 or even 3.0) when gamers use risers not PCIe 5.0.
YouTubers have found that players may encounter blue screens, game loading errors, or even the inability to load due to an issue with the riser. This is concerning, as there are almost no PCIe 5.0 risers on the market, and they are usually expensive.
