There will be one less Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls game in the online space, but fans of Morrowind or Skyrim should not worry.
The Elder Scrolls: Legends will cease to exist on January 30, 2025, and players will no longer be able to enter the digital card game. Despite the delisting of the game in Steam users who have the game on PC and mobile devices can continue to play until this date.
Legends debuted in 2017 and faced a lot of competition in the card game genre. The most well-known of them, Hearthstone, is loved by many, and The Elder Scrolls: Legends seems to have fallen short of the audience, despite its connection to the extremely popular RPG series from Bethesda. The game’s population on Steam peaked at only 9000 players seven years ago and was rapidly declining. By 2020, the number of Steam players had fallen to hundreds. In 2019, Bethesda suspended The Elder Scrolls: Legends, and since then, updates have stopped coming.
Bethesda has not yet released any statement regarding the game’s closure, but players running The Elder Scrolls: Legends are now greeted with a message about the imminent closure of the game: «Elder Scrolls Legends servers will be permanently closed on January 30, 2025». It is noted that until the final closure, all items in the store and participation in game events will be available for one unit of gold each.
Instead, Bethesda offers The Elder Scrolls: Castles — a game similar to Fallout Shelter, which was officially launched in September this year. The sixth RPG The Elder Scrolls will be released next after Starfield, but its should not be expected before 2026.
