Oppo Find N5: the world’s thinnest folding smartphone at €1799

Published by Vadym Karpus

It seems that smartphone manufacturers have left behind the battle for megapixels, gigabytes, and gigahertz and are now focusing on millimeters. And now Oppo is breaking into this race for the title of the thinnest foldable smartphone with its new Find N5 device. This is the thinnest model to date.

Being the successor to the Find N3, the new N5 develops its ideas in almost all important aspects, starting with the design. At 4.21 mm thick when unfolded, Oppo Find N5 is barely thicker than a USB-C port. When folded, the thickness is 8.93 mm, making it the thinnest foldable phone in the «book» form factor to date. For comparison, Honor Magic V3, which was the current thinness champion, has 4.35 mm when unfolded and 9.3 mm when folded, while the Galaxy Z Fold6 are 5.6 mm and 12.1 mm, respectively.

How did we manage to make Oppo Find N5 so thin

The main secret is the new titanium-carbon Flexion Hinge. It is 26% smaller than the hinge in Find N3, but even stronger. Oppo used a 3D-printed titanium panel and carbon fiber inserts to minimize the weight of the smartphone. As a result, Find N5 weighs only 229 grams.

This smartphone is not only thin and light, but also the world’s first foldable device with IPX6, IPX8 and IPX9 protection ratings. This means it can withstand both underwater immersion and powerful jets of hot water. The body is made of 7000 series aluminum, which increases its durability.

The new hinge has also helped in the long-standing struggle with the dreaded display crease on the main panel. Oppo has used an 8.12-inch LTPO OLED screen with FHD+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. The panel has an aspect ratio of 9.9:9 and a peak brightness of up to 2100 nits.

The outer screen is a 6.62-inch LTPO OLED with FHD+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. This panel boasts a 20.7:9 aspect ratio and peak brightness of up to 2450 nits. Both screens are compatible with the Oppo Pen stylus, which is sold separately.

Oppo Find N5 is equipped with a processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite with one deactivated computing core. The chip is complemented by 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. This is the only version available in international markets.

Oppo Find N5 cameras

Oppo has partnered with Hasselblad to create the Find N5 cameras. The device offers three camera modules:

  • 50 MP main camera (LYT-700 sensor) with an equivalent focal length of 21 mm and optical stabilization (OIS);
  • 50 MP periscopic telephoto module (Samsung JN5 sensor) with 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 70 mm);
  • 8 MP ultra-wide module (equivalent to 15 mm) with autofocus.

Find N5 has a 5600 mAh silicon-carbon battery with support for 80 Watt SuperVOOC wired charging and 50 Watt AirVOOC wireless charging. The software is represented by ColorOS 15 based on Android 15. Oppo promises 4 years of Android updates and 6 years of security updates.
