It seems that the huge assortment in the online store has forced Amazon to resort to strange updates — from now on, the Amazon Shopping app will provide a list of goods that the company does not sell.
The new feature is in beta and is available in search results, where among the list of unavailable products on Amazon there will also be links to the websites of brands that do sell them.
«When customers who have access to the beta version search for a brand and/or product, we show relevant products found in the Amazon store and also highlight products that we don’t sell but are available directly on another brand’s website», — the company says (via The Verge).
When you click on a product, Amazon will notify you that you are leaving its store and, after confirmation, direct you to a third-party site.
Amazon has long been known as a store that seems to sell absolutely everything, so it will indeed be easier for the app to list what it doesn’t have. However, it is possible that the feature was launched because the company will receive a certain percentage from brands for referrals to their sites — but this was not mentioned in the release.
Amazon Vice President Rajeev Mehta noted that the new feature is designed to expand the selection and «make shopping more convenient for customers». Currently, a limited number of US users can try out the new feature in the beta in the Amazon Shopping app on iOS and Android, but if the feedback is positive, access will be expanded.
As a reminder, in November, the company launched Amazon Haul online store, which offers products for $10-20 or less, in an effort to catch up with the popular Chinese app Temu, and in December, Amazon’s e-commerce empire expanded to include car sales — a beta version of the Amazon Autos category was launched on the website.
