Atomic Monster, James Wan’s production company, has acquired the rights to create a TV series based on the indie game Pacific Drive, which was nominated for the Game Awards.
Pacific Drive is a survival game with driving elements. It takes place in the Olympic Exclusion Zone, a territory where paranormal phenomena have changed the laws of physics. Players explore the dangerous world in a modified car that can be improved in the garage between raids. Each journey is about fighting anomalies, searching for resources, and uncovering the secrets of an abandoned region. Pacific Drive, the first game from Ironwood, made an impression on the press and the community: critics on Metacritic rated it 79 points out of 100, while users of Steam left 84% of favorable reviews.
Pacific Drive was released in February and was nominated for «Best Indie Game Debut» at the Game Awards 2024The game won the «Best Gameplay» award at the BIG 2024 festival, where it also competed for the «Best Game» title. In June, Pacific Drive was added to the recommended reading list for the Science Fiction Writers Association’s «Nebula» award.
James Wan (director of «Aquaman», «Saw», «The Conjuring») and Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Rob Hackett will executive produce the TV adaptation of the project alongside Jeff Ludwig of The Menagerie Productions. The potential series is not yet tied to a specific TV channel or streaming platform.
Under Hackett’s leadership, Atomic Monster’s television division recently released the horror-thriller series «Teacup» (Teacup) on Peacock. Upcoming projects include the spy thriller «Copenhagen» (Copenhagen), featuring Simu Liu as actor and executive producer for Peacock, and «Obsession» (Obsession), based on Kathryn Ryan Howard’s bestselling novel «56 Days» (56 Days), for Amazon Prime Video.
Additionally, Wang’s Atomic Monster is currently developing television projects «1313» and a series based on «RoboCop» for Amazon.
