PC gamers spend 92% of their time on old games — there are five absolute leaders

In 2024, the PC gaming market reached almost a billion players, but the vast majority spend 92% of their time playing old games.

According to the latest data from Newzoo (via PC Gamer), last year computer games had 907.6 million users, while consoles accounted for 653.5 million.

PC players are still more committed to old, live service games, where they spend 92% of their time:

  • 67% of game hours were spent on games that are 6+ years old;
  • 25% — for games released 2-5 years ago;
  • 8% — for games released less than 2 years ago.

At the same time, the vast majority of the 67% of time spent on the oldest games is taken up by the five main titles:

  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive / Counter-Strike 2 — 7,1%
  • League of Legends — 6,4%;
  • Roblox — 6,2%;
  • Dota 2 — 5,8%;
  • Fortnite — 5,4%.

One can argue about Counter-Strike 2, which is supposedly only due out in 2023, but the report makes an indisputable argument: it is essentially a remake of CS:GO 2012, which can also be considered a remake of Counter-Strike 2000.
