According to Bloomberg, Ukraine is among the top six countries with the highest level of consumption of pirated content — so it’s no surprise that the latest Similarweb statistics showed that the third most visited site among Ukrainians is the pirated UAKino.
And it’s not the only one in this ranking, Filmix and Rezka are in the eighth and ninth places, respectively. In total, the TOP 50 most popular sites in Ukraine included eight pirated resources.
Important: visit statistics are collected for specific domains, and pirated sites constantly migrate from one domain to another to avoid blocking, so the real numbers could be much higher. Meanwhile, the Uablocklist team, while analyzing the statistics, found Filmix on six different domains, thus separately summed up the visits for them:
Comparing these data with the statistics of visits to legal streaming platforms, the number of views on Netflix would be about 30 times smaller than on UAKino.
The number of branded searches (when the name or domain of a pirated site was searched) indicates a user’s desire to specifically reach a certain resource: here HDRezka is 4.5 times more popular than Netflix and twice as much as Megogo.
“The total number of visits to pirated sites is 20 times greater than all official video content providers combined, yet specifically searching for pirates only occurs twice as often. This difference includes all those instances when a user was searching for a movie or series by name or didn’t even know what they wanted to watch,” — notes the article from Uablocklist.
Let’s remember that last year in Ukraine the broadcast of 16 Russia-related media services was banned (including HD REZKA, KINOGO, GuidOnline), however, as mentioned earlier, the services continue to be available on alternative domains or through VPN.
