Porsche will continue to produce models with internal combustion engines – electric cars are not very popular

Published by Vadym Karpus

Porsche is not yet ready to completely abandon internal combustion engines and plans to produce more models with internal combustion engines. This is due to the slowdown in sales of electric vehicles.

«What is clear is that we are staying with the internal combustion engine for much longer,» said Porsche CFO Luc Meschke.

He also said that in the «premium luxury segment there is a «clear trend» towards gasoline engines, and as a result Porsche «will respond» to this in its product cycle.

Porsche sells two expensive electric vehicles: Taycan and the recently launched Macan. The company planned to release more models exclusively on electric power, including the Cayenne 718 and a new high-performance crossover. But now Meschke says that Porsche may release hybrid or gasoline versions of these electric vehicles and «is in the process of making conceptual decisions».

Previously, Porsche set a goal of 80% of its sales being electric vehicles by 2030. The company released the rear-wheel drive Macan and the updated Taycan this year. However, sales of electric vehicles in the United States have declined sharply, and the company is also not doing well in China, where local brands are producing cheaper electric vehicles. This is forcing the company to revise its plans.
