German resource WinFuture shared new important features of the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 processor. This is a next-generation chip for Windows PCs.

The main news is that the new Snapdragon X2 chips may enter the PC market with 18 Oryon V3 cores, which is 50% more than in Qualcomm’s current generation PC processors. The source believes that the additional, more powerful cores will help Snapdragon X Elite Gen 2 chips in the high-end laptop and desktop market.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a successor to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processors for Windows-based client PCs. Last October, we heard from the same source that Qualcomm already had test samples of Snapdragon X2 chips, which were codenamed Project Glymur and model number SC8480XP.

This time, WinFuture claims to have had access to undisclosed databases and lays out some important specifications. The increase in the number of computing cores is not all. The source found documents that indicate that Qualcomm’s new SiP (system in a package) will contain both RAM and flash memory. Specifically, the SC8480XP has 18 cores, 48 GB of RAM, and 1 TB of SSD on board.

Interestingly, the Snapdragon X2 Elite can be combined with a discrete graphics card, which could make the chip interesting even for desktops and gaming laptops. The first-generation Snapdragon X Elite impressed with its high CPU performance, but the integrated GPU could hardly offer acceptable gaming performance.

Qualcomm approaches PCs with a different experience than traditional players like AMD and Intel. Therefore, we should not be surprised by its different approach to SiP implementation. The source also indicates that Qualcomm is testing a next-generation processor with a monoblock cooler and a 120-mm radiator. Perhaps the company is trying to see what advantages it can bring to a desktop computer compared to the portable devices with limited thermal conditions in which its chips are usually used.

WinFuture additionally indicates that future chips may be released under the Snapdragon X2 Ultra Premium brand. Qualcomm reportedly plans to make its new top-of-the-line chip widely available only next year.

This is not the first time we have heard about the high performance of Snapdragon X Elite series chips. Previously was reportedthat the first-generation processor outperforms the Intel Core Ultra 7-155H and pulls games.
