Razer has paid more than $1 million to people who bought the Zephyr mask through «misleading» advertising during the pandemic

First released in 2021, the Razer Zephyr mask was mistakenly sold as containing N95 class protection (i.e., the filter retains at least 95% of particles from the air) — however, the advertisement turned out to be misleading.Last year, the US Federal Trade Commission stated that Razer advertised N95 class protection without any proof or testing, and also ruled that the company must refund customers and pay a fine of $100,000.Currently, the agency’s website states that payments have started — a total of about $1 million will be returned to 6764 customers in the form of checks or PayPal payments, which they must convert into cash (or return the PayPal payment) within 30 days.

Let’s recall that the mask Razer Zephyr was first shown as a concept at CES 2021, and due to extraordinary demand, they decided to release it as an actual product. The first batch priced at $99 (plus an additional $10 for a set of filters) per unit sold out in an instant, and just a year later at CES 2022 they showcased an updated Pro variant for $150.

At the time of release, it was noted that the masks have blowout N95 class filters, RGB lighting, as well as microphones and speakers that amplify the owner’s voice, and are capable of operating for 5-6 hours with the fans turned on.
