For a long time, consumers have been favoring Intel desktop processors. But the release of not very successful recent models has tipped the consumer’s scales in the other direction. And now the top ten most popular CPUs on Amazon consist exclusively of AMD chips.
In the third quarter of 2024, the AMD company increased its share in the desktop processor market to 28.7%. For comparison, 5 years ago, this figure was only 15.8%. This means an increase of 81% and a significant decline in Intel’s position.
The current «red» advantage is clearly demonstrated by the list of best-selling processors on Amazon, where the top ten positions are occupied by AMD processors from the Ryzen 5000, 7000, and 9000 series. Intel managed to take only 11th place with its Core i7-13700K, a processor that is 2 generations behind its contemporaries.
Some might argue that Intel’s Core Ultra 200 chips are too new to be on Amazon’s bestseller list. But AMD’s top gaming processor, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, was launched just this month and it’s already in the top spot. This happened despite huge demand and speculative prices. The previous generation in the form of Ryzen 7 7800X3D offers a cheaper alternative, which is reflected in the second place in the rating.
The third place is taken by Ryzen 9 5900X, a four-year-old processor that is offered with a 60% discount for $226. It attracts budget buyers by supporting 24 threads at an affordable price. It even outperforms the Ryzen 9 5900XT, which was released this year but costs more at —$308. The AMD Ryzen 5 7600X at $194 is in fourth place, while the older 12-threaded (and cheaper, at $105) Ryzen 5 5600X is in fifth place.
From sixth to tenth place on Amazon’s best-selling processors list are AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D, Ryzen 7 5700X, Ryzen 7 7700X, Ryzen 7 5800X, and Ryzen 5 5500. These chips offer buyers a wide range of options — the cheapest processor starts at less than $100, and those with the money can spend more than $500 on a gaming processor.
