RIP, Kindle Oasis: Amazon is phasing out production of «readers» with physical buttons

Published by Kateryna Danshyna

Amazon plans to sell out of Kindle Oasis stocks and not replenish them in the future.

Yesterday, Amazon announced an updated line of devices, while the Oasis — the only Kindle e-reader with physical buttons — was not mentioned in the list. Later, in a comment The Verge, the company has confirmed that it is winding down production of the Kindle Oasis.

«Once the current Kindle Oasis range is sold out online and in stores, we will not be restocking the devices», said Devon Corvas of Amazon. «All of our devices are touchscreen today, and that’s convenient for customers».

Amazon first introduced the Kindle Oasis in 2016, positioning it as a high-end e-reader with page-turning buttons and a design with extra bulk on the side to make the device easier to hold in one hand. The company updated the e-reader in 2017 and 2019, but has not presented any new models since then.
