Director Christopher Nolan has assembled a star-studded cast for film adaptations «Odyssey» Homer, but lost one key actor along the way, and who would you think is to blame — Marvel.

By messages insider Daniel Richtman, Robert Downey Jr. was initially cast as the main antagonist, the Greek god Poseidon, but the actor turned down the tempting offer — in favor of working on New «Avengers», where he will also play the villain, Dr. Doom.

Downey last worked with Nolan on a biopic about Oppenheimer, and it was thanks to this film won the first «Oscar» in his career, however working with the Russo brothers and Marvelprobably seemed more interesting (or expensive) to him.

Both «Avengers» and «Odyssey» will debut in the same year, two months apart — «Judgment Day» will be released on May 1, and Nolan’s film on July 17 (By the way, it was because of «Odyssey» that we had to postpone the release date of «Spider-Man 4»).

The main role in Nolan’s movie will be played by Matt Damon — and we’ve already had a chance to see him in the image of Odysseus in the first frame (which, however, has already criticized for historical inaccuracy), while Tom Holland is rumored to take on the role of his son Telemachus. Other stars include Benny Safdie, Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Will Yun Lee, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Mia Gott, Samantha Morton, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron (but their characters are not yet revealed).

According to preliminary estimates, «Odyssey» will be the most expensive film in Nolan’s career (Probably $250 million). Filming is already underway in Marrakech, Morocco, so we expect new footage and details in the near future.
