Reliable industry insider Jason Schreier from Bloomberg has released a new report on the development of GTA 6.
He has reaffirmed that there are no plans to delay the game and noted that although the game has been in development for 10 years, full-scale work only began after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018.
Schreier also mentioned that most major publishers are holding off on announcing their own release dates as they wait for the official announcement of GTA 6—just the hint of a game delay from fall 2025 could lead to a rush of other releases at the same time.
Interestingly, top management at Rockstar has asked writers not to target transgender people and other minorities in GTA 6, making it distinct from its predecessor GTA 5 and devoid of thematic jokes.
Given the success of GTA Online, it’s no surprise that Schreier also stated that GTA 6 will feature “a massive online mode,” bolstered by “in-game content.”
Fun fact: GTA 5 has generated approximately $9 billion since its release in 2013—more than the entire Final Fantasy franchise combined, as well as the top three highest-grossing films of all time.
Remember that earlier, Rockstar veteran Obbe Vermeij reported that despite the departure of some key Grand Theft Auto developers, about 80% of the team that created GTA 4 is still working at Rockstar North on the new installment of the series.
GTA 6 is expected to debut in 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, with a new trailer possibly being shown later this month.
