Famous Apple insider Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that the new iPhone SE will be shown earlier than expected (in the coming days), but without the standard presentation.
«Apple is preparing to unveil a new and upgraded version of the iPhone SE in the coming days in an effort to boost sales and lure consumers away from other brands. According to sources close to the company, the smartphone will go on sale later this month. However, it is unlikely that Apple will hold a standard presentation, rather iPhone SE will be shown right on the website».
For the first time, a version «budget» Apple presented the iPhone in 2016. The current version, released 5 years ago, is already outdated: in fact, it is the only one of the latest iPhones that still has the «Home» button and does without Face ID. The new release is rumored to be similar to the iPhone 14 and will have 8 GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence features
There are already signs that a new smartphone is on the way, Gurman notes, specifying that stocks of the current version of the iPhone SE in stores are «exhausted», which usually happens before an update. The cost of the predecessor is $429 (three hundred less than the regular iPhone 16) and it is expected that Apple will increase it slightly for the new version, although it will remain in the price range of entry-level smartphones from Samsung and Google
The iPhone SE 4 could bring a long-awaited boost to Apple’s business, which faced a 1% drop in sales during the holiday quarter, and also draw attention away from local competitors in important markets such as China and other parts of Asia (recall that Apple’s sales in China fell 11% last quarter).
The new device, codenamed V59, will also be the first Apple smartphone to have its own cellular modem (it will replace the Qualcomm component). It is also expected that iPhone SE 4 will receive the A18 chip (as in iPhone 16 and 16 Plus)It features a single camera on the rear panel and a 6.05-inch LTPS OLED panel with a resolution of 2532 x 1170 and a maximum brightness of 800 nits.
It should be noted that the expected announcement of the iPhone SE actually coincides with the presentation of new headphones PowerBeats Pro 2 (February 11), which will be the first Apple products to have a built-in heart rate monitor.
Also in the first half of 2025, Apple plans to release MacBook Air with faster M4 chip, new inexpensive iPads and updated iPad Air models. This year, the company will also showcase professional-level desktops and smart home displayand we are waiting for the presentation in the fall iPhone 17, including with an ultra-thin version.
