Not the last of the large manufacturersSamsung has finally introduced high-speed PCIe 5.0 SSDs. In addition to high speed and capacity, the model has improved energy efficiency by half.

The Samsung 9100 PRO series delivers read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s — 99% faster than predecessors, 990 PRO. The 9100 PRO model is also allegedly 49% more energy efficient than the previous generation. According to VideoCardz, “While other brands were competing with each other to win a few hundred MB/s in tests, Samsung was waiting to launch something very fast”.

The drive’s release was accompanied by a bit of confusion. Samsung India’s initial announcement was taken down, but the press soon got hold of official materials. The company announced that the SSD 9100 PRO would be released in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and even 8TB capacities. The company has provided each of the variants with built-in radiators (8.8 mm thick and 11.25 mm thick for the 8 TB model). SSDs without heatsinks will also be available if someone wants to install third-party ones.

«The 9100 PRO SSD boasts a lightning-fast PCIe 5.0 interface that allows the drive to achieve sequential read/write speeds of up to 14800/13400MB/s, moving data twice as fast as the previous generation. In addition, with random read/write speeds of up to 2200K/2600K IOPS, you can work on large files or access your favorite games and apps faster than ever before,» Samsung says.

The Samsung 9100 PRO will be available starting this March in 1TB (suggested retail price $199.99), 2TB ($299.99), and 4TB ($549.99) variants, with each model costing $20 more with heatsinks. The 8TB drive will be released in the second half of 2025.
