Samsung is also working on a triple smartphone, but demand for foldable OLED panels is falling

Published by Vadym Karpus

Samsung is currently one of the most well-known manufacturers of foldable smartphones. However, Samsung devices fold twice, and competitors have already started producing triple smartphones. To keep up with them, the Korean giant is also working on a similar device.

Sources from Korea said that Samsung could release a smartphone that folds three times in 2025. The company has already developed the technology, and the supply chain is ready for the new product. Nevertheless, the last confirmation should come from the MX (Mobile eXperience) division, which is responsible for foldable phones.

According to the same report, orders for foldable OLED panels fell by more than 10% as demand for the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 fell short of expectations.

Samsung Display’s foldable OLED panel shipments in 2024 will total 12 million units. This is down 40% from 20 million units last year. This includes screens for Galaxy products and other companies that rely on Samsung as a supplier, such as Xiaomi, vivo, and Oppo.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6, in particular, will ship about 8 million displays, which is below the projected 10 million sales. Sales of all devices, new and old, are declining every year. According to the report, Samsung may try to combat this with a cheaper Galaxy Flip, which would make the form factor accessible to a wider audience.
