Scam Sniffer detects phishing ads on Google: users can lose all cryptocurrency

The security company Web3 Scam Sniffer reported that while searching for the official Soneium website, experts came across sponsored ads on Google for a fraudulent page, after clicking on it, connecting a wallet and signing a permission, users risked losing all digital assets. Suspicious ads appeared when users searched for the term «someium».

The link used a domain suffix that was different from the official Soneium website and looked like an incomplete landing page of the British Radiology Service

Soneium — is a public, open, Ethereum-based, 2nd-tier network blockchain developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, a joint project of Sony and Startale Labs.

In early October Scam Sniffer reportedreported that in September, 10,805 victims of phishing attacks lost cryptocurrencies worth more than $46 million. In addition, in the third quarter of 2024, more than $127 million worth of cryptocurrencies were stolen. Ether (ETH) wallets were the most frequent targets of cryptophishing attacks.

Earlier, Google Play found a mobile crypto-driver disguised as a real WalletConnect application.
