Apple is usually known for its strict (sometimes even meticulous) control over applications that are added to its App Store. However, the review process is far from flawless. It turned out that the Univer Note app, which looks like a productivity solution, is actually illegal and provides certain users with access to pirated movies.
Univer Note does work as a productivity app. But if you’re in countries like France or Canada, the app displays a menu in French that contains pirated movies and TV shows. The description of the app looks standard, albeit somewhat generic, but the app’s rating is surprisingly high at 4.9 out of 5 stars.
When Engadget journalists downloaded and tested Univer Note, they found such movies and TV shows as Agatha All Along, Breaking Bad, The Office, Deadpool, Wolverine, and many others that you can watch for free.
The content is divided into sections by different streaming services, including Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, Prime Video, Max, Paramount+, and Crunchyroll, as well as several platforms available only in France. Some of the films were recently released in theaters, including Venom: The Last Dance and Terrifier 3.
Apple is likely to remove Univer Note from the store soon.
