Kathleen Kennedy is not just not retiring — she is «very involved» in the production «of Star Wars: The New Jedi Order».
Despite the numerous rumors that Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy is leaving her position, she continues to work actively on future projects. Actress Daisy Ridley, who is returning to the role of a Jedi, said that Kennedy is personally involved in the film.
«I believe that she’s very involved. I think there was reporting that was not true. So yeah, very [involved]», — Ridley said.
Earlier, the rumors were denied by the head of Lucasfilm herself — she plans to «die making movies». Kennedy also confirmed that she personally is producing a movie adaptation of «The Mandalorian» and the upcoming movie by Shawn Levy.
«The truth is, and I want to just say loud and clear, I am not retiring. I will never retire from movies. I will die making movies. That is the first thing that’s important to say. I am not retiring» she said.
Kathleen Kennedy does discuss with Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman succession issues in the company. This does not mean that she will be leaving her post anytime soon, even though her leadership skills have been questioned many times (and by the audience).
Although The Force Awakens» remains the highest-grossing movie in US box office history, other Skywalker blockbusters have performed much worse. In particular, «The Rise of Skywalker» earned half as much as «The Force Awakens» — $1 billion. Moreover, the movie «Solo. Star Wars. A Story» (2018) became a real financial disaster, being the first film in the franchise to lose money during its theatrical release.
But so far, production of «Star Wars: The New Jedi Order», in which Daisy Ridley is back after the events «Skywalker. Ascension». The film recently got a new screenwriter — George Nolfi («The Best Offer», «People We Hate at the Wedding»), who replaced Stephen Knight («Sharp caps»). Charmaine Obeid-Chinois remains the director of the film. However, the release date has not yet been announced.
Currently, the future of the «Star Wars» movie saga is very vague, and Lucasfilm is working on several projects. The next release in the universe will be the second season of «Andora», which is scheduled to premiere on April 23 this year.
