Matilda Campbell, a 23-year-old Australian woman, fell into a rock crevice while trying to rescue her iPhone — and got stuck upside down. She was unable to get out on her own, so she stayed in this position for seven hours until rescuers arrived.

The girl was taking pictures of the area in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales and accidentally dropped her expensive smartphone into a rock crevice. She tried to retrieve it, but slipped and fell, stuck upside down between two boulders.

Despite the fact that there is no mention of the iPhone in the news, the website MacRumors checked Matilda’s social media and discovered that she owned an Apple smartphone.

The girl’s friends, who initially tried to free her on their own, eventually called rescuers. They had to remove seven boulders weighing between 80 and 500 kilograms and build a wooden frame in case any of the stones cracked and fell.

Campbell was trapped for about seven hours, and was left with scratches, bruises and a cracked vertebrae after the fall.

She was unable to retrieve her iPhone.

«Thanks for the rescue, guys… but sorry about the phone,» Campbell said in an address to the rescuers (via ABC Newcastle).
