Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2: the next top processor is predicted to increase performance by 20% and become more expensive

Published by Vadym Karpus

The new Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile processor was launched only a few weeks ago, making a big step forward in smartphone technology, as leaks about Qualcomm’s next flagship chip have already begun to appear.

Korean publication KiPost reports that Qualcomm may significantly increase the price of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 processor next year. This became known after it was revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Elite costs 20-30% more than its predecessor. This will clearly upset smartphone manufacturers and end users. Manufacturers will likely be forced to raise prices for their devices or simplify functionality to maintain price competitiveness.

This is not the only interesting information about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 that came from a Digital Chat Station insider. He reports that the new chip will be manufactured using the third generation of TSMC’s 3nm process known as N3P. This will be an improvement over the second generation of the 3nm process (N3E) used in the Snapdragon 8 Elite. In addition, the processor frequency is expected to increase, which can provide a 20% or more performance boost.

So, based on the available information, if you were hoping for a huge performance jump, as was the case when you upgraded from Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to Snapdragon 8 Elite, you might be a little disappointed. However, even so, the new chip can offer a significant improvement for flagship Android smartphones.

The switch to a more advanced process can also provide a noticeable increase in energy efficiency, which will have a positive impact on battery life. For example, Snapdragon 8 Elite-based smartphones, such as the ROG Phone 9 Pro, are already seeing significant improvements in battery life.
