Speedtest publishes Internet speed ranking — Ukraine ranks 71st

Published by Andrii Rusanov

The creators of Speedtest published ratings of the average Internet speed by country and individual cities. Both of them take into account mobile and fixed Internet separately.

So where is the best mobile data transfer? The best Internet experience is in the United Arab Emirates and other wealthy Arab monarchies, as well as in Bulgaria, Brazil, Georgia, and South Korea, unexpectedly. Among Western European countries, only Denmark made it into the top ten.

Ukrainian telecom operators — in 81st place, with average speed indicator 42.68 megabits per second. Ukraine has been overtaken by such advanced and civilized countries as Nigeria, Armenia, Lebanon, Honduras, Laos, Cambodia, Iran and Iraq, Moldova, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Also ahead are Mexico, Turkey, India, China, most European countries, and others. The fact that mobile Internet is even worse in Russia (87th place) can be a small consolation, while the United States is a good 14th place. The worst Internet is available to phone users in Belarus, Syria, Bolivia, and Eritrea.

The ranking of cities is predictably led by emirates and capitals of other leading countries. Among Ukrainian cities, Kharkiv is in the lead (101st place, 56.75 megabits), while the situation in Kyiv is worse (114th place).

Singapore has the best fixed internet (average speed 336.45 Mbps). The UAE, Hong Kong, European countries, and the United States are in the top ten, with 274.16 Mbps. In Ukraine, the average internet speed in homes and businesses is 84.40 Mbps, which ranks it 71st. That is, we can say that most Ukrainians have a 100 Mbps channel or even less. In Russia, the situation is better, but not by much — 67th place with 90 Mbps. Ethiopia, Cameroon, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Syria, and Cuba round out the ranking. In the latter four, the fixed Internet has a speed of 3-4 Mbps.

In terms of cities, the ranking includes Kyiv (83rd place, 93.73 Mbps) and Kharkiv (93rd place, 87.12 Mbps). Abu Dhabi holds the lead with 331.46 Mbps. Valparaiso (Chile) and Lyon (France) also have about 330 Mbps, while Beijing and New York have an average speed of about 300 Mbps. The worst fixed-line internet is in Syria’s Aleppo and Damascus (2.26 Mbps), Cuba’s capital Havana, and cities in Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Libya. The first image shows the global average.
