According to industry insider Daniel Richtman (via World of Reel), who cites sources close to the production of “Spider-Man 4”, Marvel boss Kevin Feige wasn’t thrilled with the initial script and is demanding a rewrite, or even possibly a complete cancellation.
Of course, changes to the script could also affect the start date of filming, which was initially planned for next summer or fall. We can also expect a new release date — from July 2026 to possibly December of the same year.
In “Spider-Man 4”, Tom Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker, and Zendaya will return too—though she will have less screen time due to her commitments to “Dune 3” and “Euphoria” (interestingly, the actors really liked the script, though). The rest of the characters have not been confirmed by the studio, but rumors include Daredevil with Charlie Cox and Venom with Tom Hardy. Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire might also return to the franchise.
Another industry insider, Jeff Snyder, hinted that the main villain of the film will be Mephisto, played by Sacha Baron Cohen. It seems like Feige has big plans for this character—previously considered for the series “It’s All Agatha” as well as “Ironheart”.
Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang Chi”) will replace Jon Watts as director for the new movie in the Spider-Man trilogy.
Just to remind you, the previous film “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ended with the world forgetting that Peter Parker was Spider-Man—which also affected Zendaya’s character. The movie received decent reviews and grossed nearly $2 billion worldwide.
