The director talked about his relationship with Marvel fans. Taika Waititi says his work on “Thor: Ragnarok” brought him closer to the community, but… not in the nicest way.
“It really pushed me into the nerd-sphere, if you will. I was living a really lovely, peaceful life, and as soon as I did that — the nerds came for my soul. They said, ‘This guy will ruin everything. He’s going to ruin Thor!’,” Taika Waititi told Entertainment Weekly.
The director filmed “Thor: Ragnarok” in 2017. The movie grossed $865 million on a budget of $180 million, and continued his work in “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which became the eighth highest-grossing film of 2022. Despite financial success, both films received mixed reviews from critics and Marvel fans. Taika Waititi will not be directing the upcoming “Thor 5”.
“It was like, ‘What, you mean again?’ And they said, ‘He’s going to spoil it for everyone, Thor is so cool!’. And I told them on Twitter (before I left Twitter) I said, ‘You don’t know what you want until I give it to you’,” the director continued.
Waititi’s next project is a dystopian sci-fi titled “Clara and the Sun,” set to release in 2025. The film will star Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams, Natasha Lyonne, Simon Baker, Harry Greenwood, and Steve Buscemi. The director is also writing the script for a new “Star Wars” movie and will be filming the already announced movie “Akira.”
