Lionsgate has dropped some behind-the-scenes shots of the high-octane action flick “Ballerina” along with fresh images of Ana de Armas as Eva Macarro – a hired assassin out for revenge after her family’s murder.
The character previously appeared in the “John Wick” films, but was portrayed by Unity Phelan.
Joining Armas in the cast of “Ballerina” are Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, the late Lance Reddick, and Keanu Reeves (and here, Wick isn’t just a cameo, he’s a full-fledged character).
“Ballerina” is the fifth film in the “John Wick” franchise. The fourth installment, released last year, was the highest-grossing in the series, raking in $440 million worldwide. Also released was the prequel series “The Continental” and in development is the sequel series “Under the High Table”.
Director Len Wiseman took the helm, but rumors suggest that due to dissatisfaction with Wiseman’s work, Chad Stahelski, director of the Wick films, had to reshoot the movie almost from scratch (though Lionsgate officially denied these rumors). According to sources at The Wrap, the first version of “Ballerina” turned out “messy”, and the reshoots lasted 2-3 months, which in turn impacted the development of the “Highlander” remake, overseen by Stahelski.
