Tesla Model Y is no longer the most popular car – Which model became the leader in 2024?

The ranking of the best-selling cars and light commercial vehicles is based on official registration statistics in 162 countries.

In general, it is noted that despite the difficulties of displacing traditional diesel and gasoline models from the top positions of the TOP 100 rating, new electric vehicle models are actively gaining places in the global list of leaders.

The Toyota Corolla became the most popular car in the world in 2024, ahead of the Tesla Model Y. Despite a slight decline in sales of 1.9%, Toyota Corolla managed to take first place, as Tesla Model Y saw a more significant drop in sales of 6.8%.

Toyota RAV4 completed the top three, showing a +13.7% increase in sales. At the same time, BYD SONG made a rapid breakthrough, rising 8 positions in the ranking to take 10th place.

TOP 10 most popular cars for 9 months of 2024:

1. Toyota Corolla became the market leader with sales of 901,991 units (-1.9%).
2. Tesla Model Y dropped to second place with 865,868 sales (-6.5%).
3. The Toyota RAV4 moved up one position to third place with sales of 836,258 units (+13.7%).
4. Ford F-Series dropped one position to fourth place with sales of 733,754 units (-1.3%).
5. Honda CR-V took fifth place with 601,374 sales (+5.9%).
6. Chevrolet Silverado remained in sixth place with 525,193 sales (-0.5%).
7. Hyundai Tucson moved up one position to 497,606 sales (-2.4%).
8. Toyota Camry dropped one position to 474,973 sales (-8.9%).
9. Kia Sportage moved up two positions to reach 448,693 sales (+4.9%).
10. BYD SONG made a significant breakthrough, moving up 8 positions, with 442,275 sales (+42.2%).
