«Thank you, Monster Hunter»: a restaurant in Japan almost lost its cheese because of the game

Published by Margarita Yuzyak

In Monster Hunter Wilds, a dish looked so delicious that fans almost emptied the cheese supply at a Japanese restaurant.

The scene where the hero stretches a piece of cheese naan looks so appetizing that gamers «rushed to» to the Nepalese restaurant Salam Namaste in Tokyo. The gamers liked the animation so much that they wanted to try the dish personally. Due to the influx of customers, the restaurant began to experience a shortage of cheese.

«Cheese nan is very popular! We stocked up on cheese, but it was quickly sold out, so we had to run to the store to get a new batch. Thank you, Monster Hunter!», — wrote restaurant in X.

The «post was picked up by» Japanese gamers, who began to tell how, after watching the scene with Naan, they also had an uncontrollable desire to eat something cheesy. Others added that the image alone made them hungry

«Cheese naan is extremely tasty. What is this amazing texture? If there was a store like this near me, I would eat curd naan every day until I got sick of it», — write in the comments.

Visually, cheese naan is similar to a regular cheese flatbread, but the dishes differ in their countries of origin and cooking method. Naan is traditional Indian bread that is baked in a tandoor (a traditional oven), not like a cheese flatbread in a frying pan or oven.

Food has always been an integral part of the Monster Hunter series. The cult began in the PSP version, and since then, with each new installment, the visuals have become more and more appetizing The developers of Monster Hunter Wilds didn’t just draw food — they spent a lot of time working with the physics of food. Capcom’s art director Kaname Fujioka admitted that making cheese elastic was especially difficult (judging by the players’ reaction, the work was not in vain). The designers had to make the cheese realistically viscous and not «cloying» artificial

Monster Hunter Wilds has sold out in just three days of release on 8 million, copies and the maximum number of simultaneous players on Steam crossed the 1 million mark. The previous Monster Hunter: World was also a huge success —circulation of 25 million copies. But now Monster Hunter Wilds has collected a third of its predecessor’s results in just three days, and overtake Hogwarts Legacy, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077 and even Dota 2. Capcom’s game is second only to games like PUBG in popularity, Black Myth: Wukong, Palworld and Counter-Strike 2.
