The best of the Xbox Partner Preview: Subnautica 2, pirate Yakuza, horror from Bloober Team and more

Published by Ihor Panchenko

On Thursday, Microsoft introduced a series of game trailers from partner studios on its stream, including the first screenings of long-announced projects. Here’s the best of what we saw at the October Xbox Partner Preview.

Alan Wake 2 DLC: The Lake House

The second (and, it seems, the last) DLC for Alan Wake 2 has received a new trailer. If the first one, shown at Gamescom was only a teaser, but now we can see the DLC gameplay, which confirms that the Federal Bureau of Investigation agent from the main game, Kieran Estevez, will be a playable character in this DLC.

Subnautica 2

Trailer of the long-awaited Subnautica 2 shows the bright, magical coral reefs in shallow waters alongside what monstrous creatures await divers deeper in the waters. Subnautica 2 will be released in early access in 2025 on Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC.

Blindfire

Blindfire, a neon-punk shooter from the British studio Double Eleven, has received a trailer showing the game’s atmosphere. It all comes down to light control: despite the start of the round in the dark, thermal scans, explosions, spotlights, and black light tell the player about the enemies running around the map, which is decorated like a laser tag arena. The game is already available in early access on Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC.

Cronos: The New Dawn

This announcement trailer was more about the atmosphere than the gameplay of Cronos: The New Dawn, a new game from Polish studio Bloober Team. The creepy trailer juxtaposed a chess game between an old woman and someone in a sealed black suit (like a scuba diver in space) with scenes of the latter splattering deformed humanoid creatures. The game will be released in 2025 for Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii

The new trailer for the Yakuza spin-off shows Goro Majima, now the only protagonist, happily bouncing around Hawaii with no memory of his past in organized crime. The trailer also reveals the sea battles that will be available in the final version of the game. The game’s release date is now February 21, 2025, a week earlier than the previous date, so as not to share the launch day with Monster Hunter: Wilds.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

The trailer of the new game from 505 Games shows a bloody adventure game that combines Chinese history with dark fantasy and magical battles. The game will be released on Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC in 2025.

Animal Well

The indie hit Animal Well, released for PC and Nintendo Switch back in May, is now available on Xbox Series X and S.

Eternal Strands

The Eternal Strands trailer showed a bright, vibrant world filled with environmental and elemental battles. Players will throw objects and themselves across maps, fighting huge enemies in the style of Shadow of the Colossus. The game will be released in early 2025 for Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC.

Mistfall Hunter

A new trailer for Bellring Games’ Mistfall Hunter shows a dark hack-and-slash adventure with fast-paced melee, ranged, and magic combat, something akin to Diablo in third person, with huge enemy bosses to boot. According to Xbox Wire, the game is a «mix of soul-slice combat and extraction-action mechanics», although what that means will probably become clearer as the game gets closer to launch. Mistfall Hunter will be released in 2025 for Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC.

Wheel World

Want to ride a bike in a cool atmosphere in an open world with strange secrets? The trailer for the new Wheel World game shows players riding their customized pro bikes in a style reminiscent of Sable. The game will be released in early 2025 for Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC.

Phasmophobia

Kinetic Games’ spooky multiplayer ghost-hunting game Phasmophobia, originally released in 2020 on PC, is finally coming to Xbox Series X and S — in a week, on October 29.

The Legend of Baboo

The Legend of Baboo trailer showed a new adventure game set on a bright, magical, but mysterious island. Players take on the role of a young boy and his big, fluffy (and, most importantly, sled dog) as they explore the island’s beaches, mountains, and dark secrets, with action-adventure gameplay reminiscent of classic Rare titles. The game will be released on Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC in 2025.

FBC: Firebreak

The long-awaited multiplayer game in the Control universe by Remedy Games is finally here FBC: Firebreak pits players in teams of three agents against the unleashed chaos that the Federal Bureau of Control is trying to curb. It will be released in 2025 for Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC.
