James Cameron showed an early version of «Avatar 3» (officially titled «Avatar: Fire and Ashes») to a few «select» people — and, according to the director, the first reactions were overwhelming.

«Reviews suggest that it is by far the most emotional and possibly the best of the three», — Cameron said (via Games Radar). «The work of the actors — is exceptional. And it’s heartbreaking in a good way».

The «Avatar» trilogy, which will feature Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang reprising their roles, will return viewers to Pandora and focus on the tribe of Ashen people living near the volcanic regions of the planet. Earlier, Cameron showed the first concept art depicting strange flying creaturesand settlement of the fire tribeand also revealed the role of Una Chaplin — the actress known for «Game of Thrones» will play a new antagonist and head of the Ashes clan.

The previous part of the series «Avatar: The Waterway» was released at the end of 2022 (13 years after the first one) and became the sixth film in history to earn more than $2 billion at the global box office (This is exactly how much, according to Cameron himself, was needed to cover the costs of production). First «Avatar» taking into account repeat rentals (but without inflation) ranks first in the list of the richest films with revenues of $2.8 billion.

Cameron himself does not plan to rest on his laurels for long and is planning at least two more installments (actually, he talked about the 6th and 7th films, but in this case, it is likely that «will pass the baton to»).

The premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ashes» is scheduled for December 19, 2025.

Previously it became knownThe film’s title credits will contain a warning that no generative artificial intelligence» was used to create the movie «. In the past, Cameron has been vocal about his feelings about technology, and they can hardly be considered positive:

«Personally, I don’t believe in a disembodied mind that simply regurgitates what other embodied minds have said-about life, love, lies, fear, mortality-by combining it all into one salad of words. I don’t believe he will ever produce something that will move an audience. You have to be human to write that. I don’t know anyone who would even think about having an AI write a script».
